RUNNER'S RINGS FAQ

Runner's Rings

Runner's Rings
Runner's Rings
Runner's Rings
Rings Ranking
Rings Territory
RUNNER'S RINGS FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about importing data, region conquest, sharing, privacy, and using Runner's Rings.

Runner's Rings is not only about pace or training analysis. It is built to preserve where you have run and how your running map grows over time.
What can I do with Runner's Rings?
You can accumulate your running routes on a map and review total distance, run count, and places you have visited. In Japan, Runner's Rings can also show prefecture and municipality conquest, with ALL-time and yearly views.
Should I connect both Strava and Intervals.icu?
In most cases, choose one. Connecting both may bring in the same run twice. Runner's Rings includes duplicate detection, but using one main source keeps things simpler.
How do I import COROS runs?
Connect COROS from Runner's Rings and manually import the runs available for retrieval. Its workflow is different from the automatic-style connection used with Strava or Intervals.icu.
What are FIT, GPX, TCX, and ZIP files?
GPX mainly stores GPS routes, FIT is commonly used by sports watches, TCX is an XML-based training format that can include GPS routes and historical workout data, and ZIP files can contain multiple exported activities. Runner's Rings can use these formats to bring in historical data.
Can I import old running data?
Yes. Historical runs can be added through supported connections or FIT, GPX, TCX, and ZIP files. TCX files are imported when the activity is recorded as Running and includes GPS coordinates. The more history you add, the more your map grows like annual rings.
How is region conquest determined?
It is based on GPS routes that pass through a region. In Japan, conquest can be reviewed at both prefecture and municipality level.
What is the difference between ALL and yearly views?
ALL shows your entire accumulated running history. A yearly view shows only runs from the selected year, so you can compare your lifetime map with how far you expanded in a particular year.
How are countries, prefectures, and municipalities shown?
In Japan, Runner's Rings follows the hierarchy of country → prefecture → municipality. Other countries are shown according to the administrative boundary data currently supported.
Can I share my conquest progress?
Yes. Country and prefecture conquest can be shared as a Runner's Rings image. Conquered regions are highlighted in pink together with progress, percentage, and remaining regions.
Can other people see my running map?
Your logged-in distance, run count, and map are shown for your account. Sharing to social media is optional and controlled by you.
What happens if I import the same run more than once?
Runner's Rings uses date, distance, start time, and route information to identify likely duplicates and reduce accidental double-saving.
Can I use Runner's Rings for runs outside Japan?
Yes. Overseas runs can appear on the map and in country-level records. Where supported boundary data exists, state or regional views can also be shown. Global coverage will continue to expand gradually.
How do the timelapse videos work?
For a period video, choose a date range and whether to build it month by month or year by year; routes grow from the map view you set. A monthly review builds the month's routes one run at a time and highlights each run. Multiple runs on the same day appear as separate scenes. There is no separate map playback feature: create a video to share or save.
What is shown in Rings Ranking?
Rankings show a place based on saved run records; there is no ranking participation switch. Personal annual distance and EXPLORE region totals appear only with separate permission from the runner. Existing disclosure choices are retained. If name display is off or unset, you appear as “Runner”. Flags and EXPLORE region names have separate display controls. Badges are derived from saved runs, active months, and approved photos; login and referral counts are not tracked. Your routes and personal map are not published.
What does Rings Territory show?
Territory participation is individually controlled and starts OFF. Participants appear in regional ranks and color areas, but personal distances and the number of regions they lead are not shown. If name display is off or unset, you appear as “Runner”. Regions are still identifiable by their map colors; this differs from publishing your routes or personal map. Turning participation off does not delete your run records.

Maps and regional statistics

Do country names and boundaries express a position on territorial claims?

Rings Territory

Country and region names and boundaries follow the map datasets used by Runner's Rings. They do not express a position on territorial claims, sovereignty, borders, or the legal status of any area.

Names and boundaries may differ from current conditions or the views of countries and regions because datasets have different sources, dates, and administrative divisions. These maps help visualize running records and are not intended to establish official borders or administrative boundaries.

Regional exploration in the main app, Rings Ranking EXPLORE, Rings Territory, and country distance totals are calculated using boundary datasets and GPS records. The top-page country totals assign each run's entire distance to the country or region containing its starting point. GPS errors and dataset differences may affect region matching.

Rings Territory names and colors represent regional ranks among participants. Personal distances are not published. They do not represent actual territorial ownership or control.
